RAMMSTEIN Guitarist Discusses 'Pussy' Video

September 25, 2009

RAMMSTEIN guitarist Richard Kruspe spoke to U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine about the hardcore-pornography-based clip for the band's new single, "Pussy", which can be viewed at this location. (WARNING: The video contains nudity and sex scenes and is not suitable for minors.)

"Originally we were going to do a song like 'Mein Teil', a core-sounding song," says Kruspe. "But we were bored of doing the same thing again and again and I said, 'Let's do 'Pussy'. If we were to make a video for it, it could be really interesting.'

"We [approached] our favorite director, Jonas Åkerlund [who has previously worked with METALLICA, SATYRICON, MADONNA and THE PRODIGY], and there was a 50/50 chance [that he would do it]. He could love it or hate it. Three hours later, we got an e-mail from him saying, 'I've listened to the track, let's make a revolution — let's make a porn!' and I don't forget the reaction of the band. They had a big smile on their faces and they said, 'Yes!'

Kruspe continues, "After doing the video, which was obviously quite interesting, we thought, 'You can't play the video on video stations or MTV.' We just found another way to make it accessible to other people.

"At the moment, we've had 6.5 million people watching the video in one week. What I'm saying is that there's always different ways.

"I remember how horrible it was in the first part of our career to be dependent on MTV and all of those station. You have to bend over so many times to get played, I just hate that fucking fact. I just like the fact that there's always another way if you wish for it and you go for it. It just shows that there is always another way and it satisfies my mind and that we can do things exactly the way we think we should do it.

"It wasn't a conscious thing, we just wanted to try something else. We shot a porn video, [so] what's the best place [where] we can host it? On a porn site!"
